Yep, this is Ben & Jerry’s JERRY!
In case you don’t know, he and his long-time friend and business partner Ben, are the men behind the ice cream company you know and love. Did you know it’s one of the most talked-about (& least conventional!) success stories in American business?
Co-founding Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc., the lovely Jerry has helped build a little converted gas station ice cream store into a $300 million ice cream empire by making social responsibility & creative management strengths, rather than weaknesses. Jerry was born in Brooklyn & went to school in Merrick, Long Island - it was there, in junior high school, that he met Ben. When he was at college, Jerry worked as a scooper in the cafeteria and, after graduation, he worked as a lab technician until he (with his buddy Ben) decided to fulfil their dream of running a food business together. They agreed on ice cream and, after a bit of research (and a $5 Penn State correspondence course in ice cream making!) they opened Ben & Jerry’s Homemade ice cream parlour in Burlington, Vermont in May 1978. The rest, as some say, is ice cream history!
Favourite Flavour: Honestly, my favorite flavour changes since I have access to a wide variety, and that's fun. Try one of our tasty frozen yogurts, like Cherry Garcia or PhishFood - you won't be disappointed.
Quote: The one quote I get credit for in the company is "If it's not fun, why do it?" They even put it on a bumper sticker - so it must be really powerful.
Twitter name: I'm not a Twitter user; but I embrace #technology!

Meet the lovely Amelie Silfverstolpe - one of Sweden’s best known social entrepreneurs! In 2002 she founded a super non-profit organisation called Volontärbyrån which aims to connect volunteers and nonprofits in order to solve a social problem. With over 35,000 volunteers connected with more than 1,600 companies, it surely does well by doing good. She has won some great awards too, including social entrepreneur of the year in 2009 – way to go, Amelie!

Christian Stadil both owns and co-owns a whole host of companies within sport and fashion, technology, food, real estate, shipping and packaging! (Impressive stuff!)
He’s also the founder of the company Karma philosophy – he’s all for doing business with doing good. The last years have resulted in Europe’s largest green parking house and vertical garden, chicken farms in Malawi…and one of the world’s first socially innovative shipping vessels, “Thorco Africa”…!
Alongside 3 of the most successful Scandinavian business leaders, he came up top trumps in 2005! And when he’s not doing all this wonderful stuff in the world of business, you’ll find him climbing mountains, skiing and/or doing a spot of martial arts. (He recently climbed the most dangerous mountain in Japan…pretty nifty!)
As professor of corporate responsibility at the Aalto University School of Business, we’d say Minna Halme is certainly one bright spark! Her current research digs deeper into areas such as the societal impacts of corporate responsibility and sustainable innovations for reducing poverty – serious(ly good) stuff! Minna also writes articles, and has authored a number of books on the sustainability and business area …now that’s what I call I a clever cookie!
